Questions from poking around Cacti view of network?

I was going through the graphs/data available via Cacti server and had few questions. 1) What are the Rainier and Tacoma PTP links for on Baldi? Both are showing no traffic recently, are they for future growth? 2) There are three PTP links at Paine I was curious about. I'm guessing the 'Monroe' link is really Bart's client node. But is the Shoreline and 'Bruce' PTP links purpose? The Shoreline link is showing lots of traffic, is that the uplink from the Westin? 3) There seems to be a big hole in the data in the last 24 hours, any idea what happen? Seems to impact all the data sources, so probably something on the server side? Thanks Kenny

A network of broadcast (QST) stations on different band could disseminate over local, state, and regional areas with critical information such as callouts, weather, road conditions, and calls for assistance. The receiving stations do not have to be able to transmit and can be very simple. A receiver acoustically coupled to a computer or other device to decode the audio. The idea is not new, references: NAVTEX and AMTEX. And APRS... We have an incredible statewide (and beyond) infrastructure in place just ready to be used. Bill, WA7NWP PS. After spending 5 days without power and heat back in 2006 I realized that APRS was the ultimate personal communications system. A small solar panel, 12v battery, low power PC or new Raspberry PI, and I now have a station that will run indefinitely allowing me to exchange messages, view and post situation status messages and local weather at a glance. PS2. Does the State EOC have a link into the Puget Sound Data Ring HamWAN system? That provides redundant high speed links to the Internet as well as ties to other local facilities. Cost is only $80 to $200 not counting a pipe on the roof and Ethernet connection.

Worth noting is that there are WinLink products and users on this Emcomm LAN. It is based on PtP distribution, with a some Point to multi-point. It differs from broad band hamnet in that it is all stock Ubiquiti products based non-modified, does not use node like connectivity, and no part 97 restrictions. But those BBHN out there are doing the same thing as far as product distribution, just the Baja-San Diego network went a different direction. Both work in the same venue of IP client-server distribution. Winlink products include HF gateway with auto forwarding that USA side can take advantage of. RMS Express PtP telnet users. RMS Relay Post Office in service. Differeing packet gateways using LAN to reach common RMS Relay. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPY FROM NEWSLETTER Update on San Diego/Baja High Data Rate Emergency Network There is progress on the HDRENS (High Data Rate Emergency Network of San Diego) project: Our team has just completed installation of a new high data rate relay point on the University of California, San Diego tower, located on Mt. Soledad, California. There are two dishes at the top of the main structure of the tower; one is for a 5 GHz link from our central radio room location in Coronado, California and one 2.4 GHz dish serves as a relay looking out into our "client territory." Both dishes are on rotators. The 2.4 GHz link has been positioned to serve a number of our active ARES associates including our ARES EC Bruce Kripton, KG6IYN. The TX/RX data rates we currently measure on the 5 GHz link are in excess of 50 Mbps. Our long range plan is to continue to expand the high data rate network up the coast and inland to provide high data rate private LAN backup for more and more emergency communications clients including those San Diego County hospitals that choose to participate. The Mt. Soledad installation will now serve as a key relay point as we reach out further into the lower and central San Diego County region. HAMNET in Austria and Germany

It appears the Austrians and Germans have built themselves quite a network on 2.4 and 5.8GHz in the last few years. http://wiki.oevsv.at/index.php?title=Kategorie:Digitaler_Backbone It looks impressive. I enjoyed meeting Jann at the DCC. What they have now is more a carrier service provider network and are running into the problems that entails. I spent about 5 hours at the bar drinking and discussing network architecture till we got kicked out at 2am with them.
