Questions from poking around Cacti view of network?

I was going through the graphs/data available via Cacti server and had few questions. 1) What are the Rainier and Tacoma PTP links for on Baldi? Both are showing no traffic recently, are they for future growth? 2) There are three PTP links at Paine I was curious about. I'm guessing the 'Monroe' link is really Bart's client node. But is the Shoreline and 'Bruce' PTP links purpose? The Shoreline link is showing lots of traffic, is that the uplink from the Westin? 3) There seems to be a big hole in the data in the last 24 hours, any idea what happen? Seems to impact all the data sources, so probably something on the server side? Thanks Kenny

East Tiger sector ready to roll

Hi All, So we've been changing SKUs for a while as we evolve, and I happen to think this particular config (attached) is kinda sexy, so I thought I'd share it with y'all. My only concern is about possible water ingress around the connectors. That whole assembly is a Ubiquiti AM-5G19-120 <https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/airmax-sector-antenna/> antenna with a WaveGuard Shield AM5G19/AM2G15-120 <http://waveguardwireless.com/?product=waveguard-am5g19am2g15-120-2> radiation shield, topped off with a RouterBoard RB912UAG-5HPnD <http://routerboard.com/RB912UAG-5HPnD> modem inside an RF Elements StationBox S Carrier Class <http://www.rfelements.com/en/products/radio-enclosures/stationbox-s/> all-metal chassis. Any suggestions for a good shallow-depth server?

Hi all, I've been trying to get my grubby little hands on a server for East Tiger. The physical layout of that site demands we use a shallow depth (1/2 depth) server. There are surprisingly few servers out there that are both shallow and offer some kind of hardware RAID and KVM control with virtual media. I've identified a couple: 1. Dell R210 ii * 1U * 1CPU (E3-12##v2 series) * Max 32GB RAM * 2HD (non-hot-swap) * Stock H200 RAID controller is poopy (no BBWC/FBWC, no option to enable HD write cache), but it can take an H700 controller. * KVM not typically installed, but inexpensive DRAC6 cards available ($15) * Kind of expensive for what it is 2. HP DL320e G8 * 1U * 1CPU (E3-12##v2 series) * Max 32GB RAM * 2-4HD depending on chassis (hot-swap) * Stock B210i RAID controller is poopy (no BBWC/FBWC), but it can take a P222 controller. * KVM via iLO4 integrated standard * Expensive Given the timing, I've gonna deploy a server I have in stock, but it's really awful: 1. Rackable based on Intel S5000PSL motherboard * 2U * 2CPU (really old Xeon 5148) * 16GB RAM installed (32GB max, FBDIMM required) * 4HD (hot swap) * NO RAID controller, and no room in the chassis to install one either. * NO KVM (there is an add-on, but it's $170. It may or may not fit the chassis.) * "Free!" since it's in my inventory and I'm trying to either sell the servers off or put them to good use. Since this is going up on a mountain top inaccessible for 1/2 the year, it's really nice to have the KVM ability in case something goes wrong or you need to do troubleshooting (just had to use KVM today to work on some of our ESXi hosts), and the RAID is nice in case a drive dies or develops a bad sector. Anyway, do any of you have any suggestions for any other small servers I may not have considered yet? --Bart

I've > identified a couple: Bart, Not sure what you need to run on the server, but I've been using a super micro SYS-5017A-EF 1U SuperServer as a controller and router. Hello, Forgot to list a PDU as part of the required parts for ETiger in the last email. This is standard for our sites, in case modems lock up or start causing interference. These have been obtained 2nd hand historically, and are about $100. This budget request is for the $100. --Bart

VOTE: New site @ East Tiger Mountain - phase 1

Hello, I'm pleased to announce we have installed a working link to East Tiger Mountain @ 3000ft ASL (47.488198°, -121.946706°). The uplink is coming from the Tukwila datacenter and is just using single-polarization hardware right now because it was on hand. We should upgrade this link hardware to dual polarity, but I'd like to wait until the Ubiquity IsoBeam product hits the market before we do that. The present performance is acceptable at about 50Mbit average. So this link upgrade is being skipped in the phase 1 spend here. We have also recently replaced the Westin router with a virtualized router that offers far greater performance, so I was able to re-use the RB2011 hardware from the Westin to run ETiger. This spend doesn't need to happen at this site. Yay re-use! I would like to try linking ETiger with the Snohomish DEM ("Paine") site. Since the viability of this link is unknown, I think we should do a test using hardware on-hand. If the test shows the signals are good, I'll roll the proper hardware request into a phase 2 spend. We do need to get Sector 3 installed up there though. It would be immediately useful, and would replace our Mirrormont site, which is only 1500ft ASL, and has much slower connectivity. I've been doing some research on this but haven't found anything appropriate yet. Let me know if you have something or know of something cheap that still provides remote KVM with virtual media support. All the racks @ ETiger are two-post with very little depth available, so normal servers won't work. Our present cash balance is about $340. If you recall the last spend request (for the 900MHz test project), I was able to save some money by borrowing the expensive antenna hardware instead of buying it. We only purchased the two 900MHz MikroTik modems, and we also have two Ubiquiti 900MHz modems on loan so we can do true A/B testing.
