Lookout Mtn update - 9/21/19

Thanks to the efforts of Kenny Richards, Scott Honaker, Erik Robins, and Steve Magnuson today we were able to finally complete the installation at Lookout up in Whatcom County. Today Sectors 1 and 2 were put online along with finalizing the lightning arrestors for all 2 sectors and PTP dishes. This brings HamWAN to a majority of the 4 NW Counties in Washington, as well as a significant part of the lower B.C. mainland. I will work to get the website map updated in the coming week to give a better indication of overall coverage areas. As with all HamWAN projects this would not have happened without the help of a LOT of people - both direct and indirect. HamWAN's presence at the Lookout site would not have happened without the support of Rob Chatham. We may have some minor follow-up with improving the aim of the Triangle/McDonald dish and possibly adjusting down-tilt on Sector 1 if it is needed for covering close-in users to the site, but we are likely done at Lookout for this season. If you live in coverage areas in Skagit, Whatcom, Island, or San Juan counties, you are welcome to setup gear and make use of the network. Please contact myself or anyone else on NetOps if you have questions or problems. Thanks again to everyone involved. We have a couple more smaller site projects we're hoping to finish before the weather puts a stop to our activities for the season, but this likely is the last "big" project for this year. Now accepting proposals for kick-ass repeaters

Hello, I have recently finished upgrading the power system @ the Haystack site (4100ft, near Sultan). With the new found power budget, I'd like to get some more interesting things on the air. Space is limited, and I'd like to give preference to new/unique/high-quality/impressive projects. Here are a couple of potential ideas: 1) I'd like more repeater coverage through the Hwy 2 mountain pass. Present coverage drops off after Grotto, but it picks up again around Berne, due to mountain peak refraction. It might be interesting to stand up a 6m repeater that would bend around the mountains a bit better, and maybe tie it to DMR or something, and run it with decent enough power (300W?) that it's heard. 2) It might be interesting to have an international repeater (when the band is open) on 10m. Again, possibly tied with DMR, and again with some beefy power output. Standby power needs to be low, but transmit power can be high. I'm expecting ham applications to have a very low duty cycle. Please reply to me (not list) with what you think might be interesting up there, or if you've got the skills + gear + budget to pull off the 2 ideas I threw out here. Feel free to forward to other folks + lists, as I'd like to get the best possible ideas in front of me. Should be an interesting next few days. :) --Bart

Do I need a Cacti login to update my entry on the HamWAN live map?

Hello, I have had my first successful test of a HamWAN connection to Beacon Hill over my new condo network. I would like my user/client information to now appear on the live HamWAN map. I read that I can add my own information using Cacti but I don’t see how I can create my own login. Perhaps an admin has to enter information on my behalf? Well, it has been month with not a peep from them, so: I am offering up the antenna for free to someone who could use it. I bent the mounting frame tabs to fit the dish and cleaned up the edges of the dish as best I could with an adjustable wrench as a bending lever. The dish itself has maintained it's symmetry and I was able to bend the mounting tabs to match it, so it should be fully functional. Just to make sure, I assembled it and it looks fine, except for a bit of unevenness at the very edge of the dish. It is ready to mount a MikroTik radio (I juse the MikroTik RB912UAG-5HPnd). MikroTik mANT30 Dish antenna free to good home

Hello, I just realized that this list is for the W WA area, so I thought I would start here with this: Back in July, I ordered a MikroTik mANT30 dish antenna (with precise alignment mount) for my HamWAN installation.
