Hey everyone, Surrounding the WADNR and Amateur relationship I need to ask that those of you that believe that you/we have been wronged by the WADNR, please know that you/we have not! Please stop with any and all insults, digs, or alike towards them. Your Impact When you engage on this topic you are likely speaking out of turn and have no idea surrounding why you/we were impacted. Sure, it sucks to be asked to leave, but if I came to your house and moved in without paying rent, you to might get all bent out of shape. You might be cool if I moved in, paid rent for me, but when I invite all my friends to move in as well, then you might get angry. In short this is what happened. I had members of my own club engage with a local county commissioner that joined us for our breakfast meeting and dove into this asking for help but failed to understand the background. Just imagine how poorly this would have turned out if our Commissioner reached out to the WADNR and found out that people were complaining about access but then learning that we failed to comply with the contract. Details WADNR completed an audit and found several of their sites with equipment not captured in legal contracts. They did not single out amateurs as apart of this effort. Those amateurs that breached their contracts had a couple of things happen. * Their amateur discount was revoked. * And they were offered to renegotiate their contracts but at the commercial rate. Going from ~$80 a year ~$400 a month is a shocker. Note: Commercial sites charge based on floor space and tower location. There are several efforts underway to ensure we repair our relationship with WADNR. There are still several amateurs that have great relationships with WADNR. Please don’t f*** this up for them. If you still have concerns, you are welcome to reach out to me or the HamWAN leadership. Please know that all of us are trying to remain respectful of those that got caught and drug us into this drama. Dale, The PtP dishes use different radios than the sectors/clients, but if the link was good enough it should work to point one of the existing PtP dishes to your QTH. (The PtP radios are the NetMetal radios and they only support 20Mhz channels, the sectors/clients are normally 5Mhz or 10Mhz, but can be put on 20Mhz) I am guessing someone considered linking BawFaw to Baldi, but that would be challenging. The only tower that is in right orientation is also maxed out, so we'd have to remove something else to add this PtP dish. There is already work planned this summer at Baldi, so we can consider what would be required to do it while on site. Node at Everett Providence Hospital - new possible node on Camano Island

Hello all, I recently moved to Camano Island - east side. I have direct LOS to Providence in Everett as well as most of downtown Everett looking straight down Port Susan from my home up on the east bank of Camano near Triangle Cove. I would love to be part of radio network however I can't see SNODEM due to trees and the southern tip of Camano blocking the path. Are there any plans to add sector antennas to Providence and make it a node that covers downtown Everett? If so, I could connect there and provide coverage over all of Warm Beach to the east of me and perhaps part of Stanwood. I am happy to host sector antennas and back-haul internet from my Wave cable business account (1Gbps down/ 20Mbps up.) Thanks, Jeff KM6ISJ

2023 HamWAN season projects - INPUT NEEDED!

Good evening all, It's that time of year again where we need to start putting together the list of projects to try to accomplish for the year. I would like to get input from anyone who has a project they would like to see accomplished this year. Priority focus will be on those items requiring mountain top access as those are our most time or weather sensitive items. Below is a starting list of projects I know at least bits about: 1) Baldi visit - upgrade sectors to MIMO and/or PTP work(?) 2) Lookout visit - effect repairs on Lookout/SnoDEM PTP dish (likely cable fault) 3) Indianola setup - in process / being finished by Doug and others What else? As mentioned, it doesn't need to be a site/tower project, but those are the primary focus during good weather. I've been able to find location info for most of the PSDR sites and antenna height info for some of them. Do they all have sectors pointing 0/120/240 degrees relative to north? Is there anywhere that has EIRP info? I'm trying to see how tall a mast I need to get connected, and whether or not I can even make link for some of the sites. For example it looks like I "only" need a 35' mast for Baldi, but at 28mi away I'm not sure I can get connected reliably, vs Beacon or Capitol Park which are much closer but I'd need at least a 66' mast thanks to local terrain and trees. At the moment I'm using https://ispdesign.ui.com/ (which now has LIDAR data for buildings/trees!) and have also used RadioMobile Deluxe in the past. Thanks!

New site - Indianola

It's time for some HamWAN good news. I am happy to announce that we have activated a new site for client access - Indianola. This site has a 400' tower located just north of Indianola, on the Kitsap Peninsula, north of Bainbridge Island. This site has 2 sectors facing SW and SE covering roughly 240 degrees from ENE, clockwise to WNW (sectors 2 and 3). This should provide good coverage for the Puget Sound shoreline from Edmonds to West Seattle and then clockwise over Bainbridge and the Kitsap Penninsula. Links from this site go to SnoDEM (Paine Field) and Baldi. The map is not yet updated but will be shortly. The site is live. We hope to activate Sector 1 (facing due North) at a later date. We would like to make a special thanks to the support of the Squamish Tribe's Office of Emergency Management who made this installation possible, the on-site support of Dana Hanford and Dylan Ambauen during installation, and finally John Hayes and Elaine Bradtke for their help during the kit preparation. -Doug-, KD7DK HamWAN Netops

Rob, In Jefferson County, we use HamWAN for emergency preparedness. We have links to Lookout and Triangle. Here are my comments. 1. There needs to be a process to keep the system documentation and mapping up to date. 2. Considering that our focus is emergency preparedness, we would very much like to have backup power capabilities documented as well as the locations and survivability of internet connections. 3. We would very much like to see HamWAN RF links extended to beyond our expected Cascadia Earthquake disaster region. 4. Future of HamWAN - input requested

Greetings all, It's hard to believe that HamWAN is over 10 years old. Like many organizations, HamWAN started with a flurry of activity and grew rapidly in the first few years. Since then we've had advancements and setbacks, as well as some dead time. The new Board will be meeting toward the end of next week to discuss where we would like to see HamWAN go in the future, and how to get there. For that reason, we would like to get your input. As users, operators, admins, or in whatever capacity you interact or use HamWAN. 1) What do we do well, or not so well? 2) What services/activities would you like to see HamWAN do in the future that it doesn't do today? 3) What is wrong with HamWAN that needs fixed? These are just a few ideas, feel free to include anything else that you would like to. From your suggestions and our existing material, we plan to build a roadmap for going forward. Once that's done, we'll hold periodic discussions and updates with those who are interested so we can keep track of our progress. Please take the time to let us know your thoughts. To keep list traffic down, please respond to me or one of the other Board members directly. We'll consolidate the input and bring it back. Your current Board members are: . Doug Kingston .
