So seems a little off topic, but I’m gonna bite.

I need to ask that we remain open minded about what the spirit of amateur radio is. We also must be cognizant to the technology changes that we compete with.

We need not worry about who is in charge of punishment, that is clear. We need not worry about what the punishment is either, that too is also clear. If you don’t want to play Minecraft, then don’t play it. Easy enough. For all the young hamsters and adult hamsters that like it have a great time. @Bart Kus is this open to anyone, say Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, just as long as they connect via Net 44 and a control op? We have a troop in Bremerton that might like using this as a goal to a project.

I would like to remind everyone that we are a dying bread. Our numbers are not increasing, despite the COVID 19 bump. So if we want to keep our spectrum, we must USE it. We’ve already lost a chunk of the 220 band for lack of use.

It’s cool guys, look, it has not become the CB wasteland you thought it was gonna be. Deep breathe, relax, try these new and maybe fun things out.

Let’s just make this a kick ass hobby, one that is open to all the experimentation as defined by Part 97. Let’s be inviting to as many as we can, young and old, and a like, let’s engage with everyone we can to continue this hobby and pass it on to the next generations.

Thank you guys for building such an awesome data network that we can access. Thank you to those related to Net 44, for such an amazing offering. Thank you to everyone here that support the mission of this team.

I agree, although I am not a gamer, I think it is a good way to test the limits of the network and have fun at the same time.  Is it that different from amateur radio contesting or “fox and hound” games?  I am all for serious use of ham radio in support of emergency communications and this “fun & games” use of amateur radio can help sharpen the skills of amateur radio operators, their equipment and infrastructure, which will be important when called on for more serious communications support.  I do agree with Chuck about collecting data that would be useful to find weaknesses in the network and personal equipment that will help improve the system.

I prefer that such things become specific prohibitions and maybe even punishable offenses since they can jeopardize our having any privileges.  There is no political up side for diversionary gaming.  If games were an explicit part of experimentation to improve bandwidth and reduce latency, AND data was both collected and reported in a useful manner, THEN games may be OK.

I've come to realize that games seem compatible with Part 97.  So let's run a test of this on HamWAN.  I've setup a Minecraft Bedrock server on "minecraft.hamwan.net" port 19133.  The world has been initiated from the seed "HamWAN".  :)  If you'd like to build some ham radio related world, please join and have a go.  I expect many antennas!

I've set the game rules to pvp=off (no hitting each other), and showcoordinates=true (so people can find each other).

I'd like to hear reports of how the gaming experience is over HamWAN, so access to the server is limited to ARDC addresses only.  That is, you've gotta be connecting from 44.0.0.0/9 or 44.128.0.0/10 address space.

Have fun!  And remember, don't dig down.
