Carl,

Elections can happen any time. We don’t have a defined time for them, it just has worked out that most of the board have clumped their elections together. Directorships last for a year, so if elected, Rob’s would be offset by a couple weeks.

Specifically, here’s the relevant bit from the Constitution.
Any Supporting Member may announce his or her intention to be elected as a Director at any time, and must set a 7-day voting period to end no later than 21 days from the initial announcement of intention to run. Supporting Members are entitled to one vote each. Election of a board member shall be successful if the candidate receives more “Yea” votes than “Nay” votes.

For your reference, our Constitution is pretty short, and is available on our web site at http://hamwan.org/Administrative/Constitution.html

I’m a paying member, but not a voting member (yet – just haven’t been paying long enough).  Further, to be clear, I have no objection to Rob.

But I do have a procedural question.  Elections were announced, a deadline was set, and has since passed, and the results announced.  I have not read HamWAN’s ByLaws or Constitution, but is it appropriate for someone to nominate and be voted on after elections have closed?  What I sometimes am is a bit anal-retentive over a charitable organization (of which I am co-founder of one) following their established founding documents and policies.

Thank you,

Subject: [HamWAN PSDR] VOTE: Board of Director Elections - Rob Salsgiver / NR3O

Greetings all,

I’ve been a financial backer of HamWAN since fairly early-on if not the beginning, and have supported things mostly in the background with a few client installs in the North Puget Sound as time allowed.  (Providence Hospital Everett, Evergreen Hospital Monroe, Bakerview apartments / SCHC Repeater site, etc).

The last 9 years I’ve been working multiple roles through the growth of a local start-up that I’ve finally finished with.  Before that I was 20+ years in various roles within “old school” IT ranging from PCs, Network/Sysadmin, database,  security, project management, web design, etc.

I recently volunteered to join the NetOps crew to get up to speed on the design and management aspects of HamWAN, having done enough with the client configs to be comfortable.  Bart, Nigel, Tom, and others have carried the load for a few years now and their available time seems to be getting less while I’m at a point in life where I can take some on.  I see myself joining the board for the first year to get familiar with how things currently are running to better help transition and/or keep things going down the road should the existing guys (heaven forbid) want to take a break and spend more time with family/etc.

I am currently looking at an expansion / re-tool of SnoDEM to MIMO and back to looking at getting Everett Clinic online, which has been idle due to lack of time with prior job (no longer an issue).  At this stage I am more interested in documentation/processes/procedures to capture what already exists BEFORE all  of our founders win the lottery and tell us “adios”.

It is on this basis that I ask your consideration as a potential director for HamWAN.

Cheers,
Rob Salsgiver – NR3O
