I'd been putting off ordering HamWAN hardware because dealing with Streakwave seemed like a huge hassle. And now I've finally ordered some (over a month ago, and still not here, for various reasons), and yeah, dealing with Streakwave is indeed a huge hassle. I'm glad they're an option, but isn't there any better way to get ROW hardware? Has anybody had any luck ordering from amazon.ca, amazon.de, or any other vendor with an actual functioning e-commerce and fulfilment system? Even eBay, as much as I hate them, would have been better, if I knew how to actually find/specify -ROW versions. 73 -de- n8qg
You can also try Baltic Networks. I have successfully ordered ROW off Amazon but that was a few years ago. You can't be sure of what you will actually get until it arrives. Make sure you try to program it promptly, if it is doesn't work you will be within the return window. You might also communicate with the vendor before placing your order to try and verify ROW. Note that only the routerboard itself is the critical ROW item. The dish is a dish is a dish (if it is the right size, etc.) Good luck. Hi David, I have ordered about $500 worth of gear in the last two months and had a very different experience. Moreover, Streakwave has bent over backwards for me. The only "frustrating" thing I ran into was proving I was a ham radio operator allowed to purchase ROW gear but was easily solved by the attached form. I have also copied Bill who might be able to address your issues independently. It sounds like we are both sticklers for customer service. Bill took great care of me. Hope this helps, To all the others looking at purchasing gear. You can use the website to find the item and work through the check out process to include shipping (based on the size of this stuff, it's the costly part) before submitting your order, you can then go direct to Bill, with the attached form and your gear will likely arrive in two days, even if ground is selected. Shoot, And I left out, Bill has extended PSDR members the max discount, so again go to him for pricing once shipping is determined. To be clear: everybody I've talked to at Streakwave has been terrific, and they haven't done anything *wrong*. (And even the delays in getting my order are emphatically not their fault). But I've had to *talk* to them. And I'm just far too old and crotchety at this point for 1980s-style "talk to a human" shopping. I want to click a button and have my parts show up in the mail two days later, with no emails or "discounts" or "send us your license" or anything else. And I'm willing to pay whatever it takes to avoid those hassles, if such a vendor exists. 73 -de- n8qg

David, Thank you for sharing. And I completely get it. I think I am starting to get there too and I'm not that old. But I think this deserves a little explanation and understanding. I think it is reasonable that a company that sells products outside of the governmental restrictions, request proof of authorization to purchase equipment. While a hassle, I've attached the form and the contact, hence removing a majority of the hassle. Understand that ordering equipment that requires import to the US must be able to show compliance or exception if inspected. Failure to comply, well, gets pretty nasty. I am sure there are many on this thread that would extend an offer to purchase for you.
