Good Morning Everyone, Earlier this morning the netops team got notice that our gear up at Baldi became unavailable. At this point we’re not certain the cause, but it looks like the site hasn’t lost power, and the evidence so far is pointing to a UPS failure. We’re looking into what gear we’ve got as replacements available, and figuring out what the next steps are in terms of getting Baldi back online. In the meantime, unfortunately, Baldi will be unavailable. Thanks, Nigel

Rob, At this point, while the evidence is pointing to the UPS, we’re not certain that it’s at fault, so I’m not sure it’s a safe bet to start the replacement hunt yet. We have an old non-networked UPS model on site that we can use on a temporary basis if it is in fact determined to be a UPS failure. At that point we can look at the preferred replacements and try to hunt one down. For the sake of curiosity, the current UPS is a Tripplite double conversion model with a web management card. If it were to be found broken, there’s some discussion/research required before we’d say we want the same or something different long term. Nigel

Nigel, Where are you on the production of a PDU unit, like was installed at Beacon? I am assuming that is the now preferred solution. Is Baldi still accessible, or is that a day by day decision? Thanks Kenny On Tue, Dec 5, 2017 at 11:22 AM, Nigel Vander Houwen <nigel@nigelvh.com> wrote:

I was just looking at those same cameras. :-) Nigel actually misspoke earlier. The old UPS that might need to be reinstalled is not on site. That's about 100 lbs I'm not willing to carry while snowshoeing. Luckily, I was just talking to a friend with a snowcat and he's pretty excited to get out. I sent him the photos of snow level. Hello All, We have Baldi back online as of this afternoon, thanks to Tom and Jim’s hard work in getting up to the site, and replacing the misbehaving UPS. Tom confirmed that the UPS certainly was behaving oddly, and swapped it with the spare unit that was available. So, we’ve got backup power over the winter, and we’ll work on a plan to get a newer unit up there in the spring when access is easier. Nigel
