Hello All, We have been lucky enough over the last couple years to have the use of a borrowed ASN for HamWAN use in announcing our IP space on the internet. This has been hugely useful to the organization, and is sincerely appreciated. However, as HamWAN as a standard grows, we have seen the Puget Sound network grow to extend north to Victoria, and a number of sister networks around the country. Our agreement for use of the borrowed ASN didn’t provide well for the flexibility we desire in helping to support local and national growth. We’ve looked into acquiring our own ASN from ARIN which will provide us the flexibility we’re after. The costs for this are $550 initially for this year, and $100 per year thereafter. The board has voted to approve the expense for this year, the decision made easier by generous donations from a number of individuals to cover the cost (and then some). We have not accepted the contract yet, and as per our constitution, this decision will have a 24h comment period before we move forward with finalizing the purchase. As always, we appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Nigel
Sounds like a good move. Thanks for keeping the ball rolling. This will be a fantastic opportunity to help lower the barrier of entry for other locales in HamWAN. I'm very excited for this opportunity. On Wed, 12 Oct 2016 at 22:11 Rob Salsgiver <rob@nr3o.com> wrote:
