Hello, We had another power outage @ Baldi today. This site is very important to the network since it routes up to 140Mbit of internet to the rest of the network. Some of you may recall we also replaced the UPS there this summer to help us deal with the bad power. However it looks like the built-in batteries aren't large enough to sustain us through the longer outages. I'd like to expand the site's runtime by a factor of 17 by adding an external battery bank. I'd also like to use AGM batteries so that they last longer and don't require any maintenance. The cost of this will be $500 for the batteries, and then some small amount for wires + connectors (< $100), which can be purchased under the discretionary spending bylaw. So, this spending request is for the $500 battery cost only. I'd like to have this funded from project-specific donations and not drain our existing funds. If you'd like to donate to this specific project, please let me know in a direct email reply (no need to spam the list). Thanks, --Bart

The board met on a call this evening and approved the spend for additional batteries for Baldi with the funds donated for this purpose. Board members present were Cory, Bart, and myself. The vote was 3-0 in the affirmative. Thanks! Nigel
