A bit of good news for a change

Now that Rattlesnake has been decommed, we had 2 dangling dishes that pointed at it: one at Haystack and one at Baldi. As it turns out, these sites do have LoS to each other, so I went up and aligned the Haystack end of things with the Baldi dish, and configured them both to exchange packets. Yay for new capacity. Someone still needs to go up and align the Baldi end of things for the link to run at max speed. --Bart

HamWan UpRiver?

I have all my equipment but tried in the past to get a signal and there seems to be none here where I live. I tried pointing toward Lookout-Snodem but was not able to see any signal. I tried pointing down toward Triangle but no luck there. I live near Rasar State park. I can get bounce TV signals off the mountain from Bellingham at 180 degrees... Just wondering if there might be a method I haven't tried or a signal detector I could use other than looking at the screen to measure signals and figure out if I need boosters or something else with higher gain? Maybe my dish isn't strong enough? I have a Mikrotik LHG 5ghz 24.5 dbi dish programmed for our local HamWan. <-I went through all the steps to set up a few times and checked my work... It's not the issue of my misunderstanding settings. It is the International version not the US. At least I'm not misunderstanding how to set up the Mikrotik. Pointing it where the signal is precisely is where I'm going wrong. There may not be enough signal to be found by the dish. I've re-aligned dish network and directv dishes before and I know it's a very precise pointing process. My question to everyone, Is there a stronger version with high gain or a device to check signal strength here? I am limited to how high I can put a pole in the air because I rent. But I have HF antennas and 2 poles about 30 feet in the air. I have looked at the map and it shows the signal is not here or weak. Just wondering what I could do? N7MWH Mark

Volunteer needed to help establish Haystack<->Baldi link

With Rattlesnake gone now, I think it makes sense to link up Baldi with Haystack. They both have unused dishes now, pointed at roughly the right direction to make this happen. The Haystack end of the cable became damaged recently though, and needs to be re-run in a PVC conduit so it stays unbroken. The tree the modem is on needs to be trimmed so it doesn't shed ice that kills the hardware. Then the link needs to be aligned with S1.Baldi as a remote beacon. Who wants to come do this? I may be going up the mountain as soon as tomorrow for an unrelated issue and won't have time to do these things. --Bart

Who wants to help on Sunday to decom Blyn?

Need some ground crew people, and could use 1 more climber. We'll start @ 11AM there. Hoping to have a quick day just dropping equipment on lines. Arms are staying on tower, as well as the trapezoidal cable clamps. --Bart

HamWAN equipment storage needed

Hi All, We need to decom 4 tower sites, and don't have room to store the equipment anywhere. If someone is willing to donate some storage space that'd be great. So far we've had one storage offer, but up in Bellingham. We're gonna have roughly 10 x 2ft dishes coming down, and 8 x 2ft sectors. Also some UPSes, routers, and boxes of cable attachment hardware. The cable itself will be discarded though, not stored. Thanks for any assistance here! --Bart
