Chuck, I don't recall reading a list of things you CANNOT use HamWAN for. Only that you cannot use encryption. If they set limits on the internet in the early days we would not be where we are now. Cannot restrict everything and expect any sort of good development to ever happen. The limits re:encryption are as far as it should go, other than blatant abuse such as downloading massive amounts or doing other things that affect the performance of the network I do not see how there is any harm in trying to see the usefulness of the network while having a little fun. Hello,
I've come to realize that games seem compatible with Part 97. So let's run a test of this on HamWAN. I've setup a Minecraft Bedrock server on " minecraft.hamwan.net" port 19133. The world has been initiated from the seed "HamWAN". :) If you'd like to build some ham radio related world, please join and have a go. I expect many antennas!
I've set the game rules to pvp=off (no hitting each other), and showcoordinates=true (so people can find each other).
I'd like to hear reports of how the gaming experience is over HamWAN, so access to the server is limited to ARDC addresses only. That is, you've gotta be connecting from 44.0.0.0/9 or 44.128.0.0/10 address space.
Have fun! And remember, don't dig down <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJQclHtsEE8>.

I agree, although I am not a gamer, I think it is a good way to test the limits of the network and have fun at the same time. Is it that different from amateur radio contesting or “fox and hound” games? I am all for serious use of ham radio in support of emergency communications and this “fun & games” use of amateur radio can help sharpen the skills of amateur radio operators, their equipment and infrastructure, which will be important when called on for more serious communications support. I do agree with Chuck about collecting data that would be useful to find weaknesses in the network and personal equipment that will help improve the system. 73 de, Dana Dana Hanford, Jr., CPMR, KC7SDD WA APCO-NENA Commercial Representative Vice President The Sales Group, inc. Hey guys, So seems a little off topic, but I’m gonna bite. I need to ask that we remain open minded about what the spirit of amateur radio is. We also must be cognizant to the technology changes that we compete with. We need not worry about who is in charge of punishment, that is clear. We need not worry about what the punishment is either, that too is also clear. If you don’t want to play Minecraft, then don’t play it. Easy enough. For all the young hamsters and adult hamsters that like it have a great time. @Bart Kus<mailto:me@bartk.us> is this open to anyone, say Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, just as long as they connect via Net 44 and a control op? We have a troop in Bremerton that might like using this as a goal to a project. I would like to remind everyone that we are a dying bread. Our numbers are not increasing, despite the COVID 19 bump. So if we want to keep our spectrum, we must USE it. We’ve already lost a chunk of the 220 band for lack of use. It’s cool guys, look, it has not become the CB wasteland you thought it was gonna be. Deep breathe, relax, try these new and maybe fun things out. Let’s just make this a kick ass hobby, one that is open to all the experimentation as defined by Part 97. Let’s be inviting to as many as we can, young and old, and a like, let’s engage with everyone we can to continue this hobby and pass it on to the next generations. Thank you guys for building such an awesome data network that we can access. Thank you to those related to Net 44, for such an amazing offering. Thank you to everyone here that support the mission of this team. 73 (Ham radio way of saying Best Regards), Jamie Hughes WA7JH Public Information Officer, KCARC Repeater Committee Chair, KCARC Public Information Officer, ARRL – Western Washington Section Email: PR@kcarc.groups.io<mailto:pr@kcarc.groups.io> Phone: (360) 362-4575<tel:+13603624575> Kitsap County Amateur Radio Club<http://www.kcarc.org/> PO Box 2268 Silverdale, WA 98383 [cid:image003.png@01D694A5.DA4DBA10]<http://kcarc.org/> [cid:image005.png@01D694A4.EF922C90]<https://twitter.com/KCARC_KC7Z> [cid:image006.png@01D694A4.EF922C90] <https://www.facebook.com/kitsaparc/> [cid:image007.png@01D694A4.EF922C90] <https://www.instagram.com/kcarc_kc7z/> [cid:image008.png@01D694A4.EF922C90] <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc-6bwlaDGhoM4MnnDSvGnA> [cid:image014.png@01D694A5.DA4DBA10] <https://www.linkedin.com/company/kc7z/> [cid:image015.png@01D694A5.DA4DBA10]<https://smile.amazon.com/ref=smi_ext_ch_80-0589655_dl?_encoding=UTF8&ein=80-0589655&ref_=smi_chpf_redirect&ref_=smi_ext_ch_80-0589655_cl> From: PSDR <psdr-bounces@hamwan.org> On Behalf Of Dana Hanford Sent: Sunday, September 27, 2020 07:46 To: Puget Sound Data Ring <psdr@hamwan.org> Subject: Re: [HamWAN PSDR] HamWAN Minecraft? I don’t interpret Part 97 excluding gaming applications. Amateur radio has long been a hobby (entertainment is core to most hobbies), informal social interactions (which Minecraft along with other interactive games and rag-chewing is certainly a method for that), advancing the radio art (experimentation for new applications/usages, and I for one haven’t yet heard of Minecraft being done over the air), and it’s yet another digital application in the trend of amateur radio moving quickly towards digital (I see opportunity for propagation modeling, remote control radios, and other modeling being done in a sim-world like Minecraft, Hamsphere style). This is fully compatible with Part 97 IMO.
